The College of Wooster put together an eight-run second inning in its nightcap with Baldwin Wallace University, which helped them earn a 10-8 victory and a split with their northeast Ohio foe, after it dropped the opening game of a non-conference doubleheader 8-3 on Thursday evening at Berea, Ohio.

Trailing 2-0 after the first inning of the second game, the Fighting Scots' (14-14) offense exploded to the tune of eight runs in the second frame. Gina Pirolozzi led off with a single up the middle, and then the Scots went on to bat through the entire lineup and more.

Some key scoring plays during the inning included RBI singles from Paige Goldberg and Erica Villa, a single from Carly Schoenstein that drove in a pair, a double off the bat of Skye Patterson that plated two, and finally, a two-run homer from Pirolozzi that put the Scots ahead 8-2.

Wooster added another run to its cushion in the top of the fourth inning, when Demi Hart led off with a double, and Schoenstein proceeded to knock her in with a single on the very next play, but Baldwin Wallace made some noise of its own with a four-run fifth to cut the deficit to three runs at 9-6. The Yellow Jackets moved a little closer in the sixth, but ultimately, with Allie Webb pitching 1.2 innings of one-hit ball down the stretch, the Scots hung on for a high-scoring victory.

In the opener, Wooster took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to Schoenstein's two-run single to deep center field, but Baldwin Wallace answered right back with a three-run homer in the bottom of the frame to go ahead by one (3-2).

The Scots scored just once more in the game, during the seventh inning, but it was too little too late, as the Yellow Jackets racked up eight runs on 13 hits to win by a comfortable 8-3 margin.

On the day, Villa (4-for-6 with two runs) and Schoenstein (3-for-7 with four RBI) paced the offense.

Wooster will get back to the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of its schedule Saturday when it hosts Kenyon College (18-11, 6-4 NCAC) for a doubleheader that kicks off at 1 p.m.
