Jenn Horton pitched seven scoreless innings and Skye Patterson knocked in the winning run to lead The College of Wooster past Denison University 1-0 on Monday evening in the nightcap of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Granville, Ohio. The Fighting Scots lost the opening game 9-1.

Wooster (15-17, 3-9 NCAC) and Denison (19-13, 7-5 NCAC) were engaged in a pitcher's duel in the second game, as Horton and her counterpart, Kelsey Hager, each had no-hitters going through three innings.

The Scots were able to get on the scoreboard in the fourth, though, as Demi Hart led off the frame with a double to left center field, and Carly Schoenstein pushed her over to third with a sacrifice bunt. Next, Patterson hit a grounder to shortstop, which was enough to plate Hart and give the Scots what wound up being the game-winning tally mark.

Horton continued her strong pitching all the way through the contest, allowing just two hits, a single and a double, and striking out three to register her third complete-game shutout of the season.

The opening game ended in a run-rule, as Denison scored at least two runs in four of the five innings played to log the 9-1 victory. The Scots' lone run came in the fourth frame, when Hart smacked a double to deep center that scored Paige Goldberg. It was Hart's 12th double of the spring.

Overall, Hart was the only Wooster player to record hits in both games, as she went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI on the evening.

The Scots will visit Ohio Wesleyan University (11-17, 4-8 NCAC) for another conference doubleheader Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
