As if beginning her collegiate softball career on a trip to Florida wasn't exciting enough, freshman Maddy Chase pitched a perfect game to highlight several impressive appearances throughout the week, resulting in North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week honors, the league office announced late Monday.

Chase pitched 22.0 innings last week, which included four starting nods, but her first appearance in the circle came in relief.

With the Fighting Scots locked in a 2-2 tie with Nazareth College, Chase entered in the third inning and proceeded to pitch five shutout frames to pick up the win.

She then made her first career start against Saint Joseph's College (Me.), where she struck out three batters (no walks) and allowed just three earned runs, but was a tough-luck loser in a 4-3 setback.

Chase was literally perfect in her next outing, as she tossed the second perfect game in program history in a 9-0 run-rule victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology. The impressive newcomer set down all 15 batters she faced, with three strikeouts, eight groundouts, and four fly outs, to notch the Scots' first perfect game since the 2003 season.

She made two more starts on the week, including a win against Lasell College, where she limited the Lasers to three hits and one earned run over four innings of work.

Overall, Chase compiled a 3-2 record with a 1.91 ERA and 12 strikeouts. Her and the Scots will look to continue their strong start to the season this week as their spring break trip in Florida rolls on.
