WOOSTER, Ohio – Jenna Kendall and Maddy Chase both pitched seven-inning complete games to keep The College of Wooster competitive during its doubleheader Saturday, but Case Western Reserve University also pitched well and added some timely hitting to get by the Fighting Scots 3-1 and 6-0 in non-conference action at Galpin Park.

Kendall did all she could to keep the Scots (10-10) within reach during the opener. The Spartans (18-7), who were averaging 8.4 runs coming into the game, only managed three runs (2 ER) against Kendall, as the sophomore pitcher scattered 10 hits (eight singles) while fanning four and walking none in a strong appearance.

Perhaps most impressively, Kendall dominated her match-up with Case's Annie Wennerberg, who entered with a .477 batting average and 13 home runs. Wennerberg went 0-for-3 and struck out twice against Kendall.

Wooster had a chance to get ahead early, as it loaded the bases with no outs in the second inning, but Wennerberg struck out the next three batters to escape the jam.

Case tacked on runs in the third, fifth, and seventh innings to build the 3-0 lead it rode to victory. Demi Hart scored the Scots' lone run in the bottom of the seventh, as she singled to left field to start the frame, and then eventually made her way home after the Spartans committed a pair of errors.

The second game was much like the first, as Chase gave Wooster every opportunity to take control of the ballgame. After allowing a two-run double in the first inning, Chase settled in and was nearly unhittable, as she surrendered just three hits over the next five frames.

The Scots' best chance at triggering the scoreboard was in the third inning, when Hart led off with a double and later Skye Patterson and Paige Goldberg added singles to load the bases, but once again the Spartans were able to avoid taking any damage.

Overall, Hart was 3-for-5 on the day with two doubles, while Goldberg and Stephenie Little each recorded two hits. Also noteworthy, Carly Schoenstein hit a deep shot to centerfield during the opener that might have cleared the fence had it not been for an ill-timed wind gust, and she also made several impressive defensive plays at shortstop.

Wooster will look to brush off the non-conference losses and get back into the win column as it resumes its North Coast Athletic Conference schedule against Allegheny College (4-7, 0-1 NCAC) at home on Wednesday. The twinbill starts at 3:30 p.m.
