The College of Wooster proved it can win with either pitching or hitting during its doubleheader Tuesday, as Maddy Chase tossed a complete game shutout against Ohio Wesleyan University in the opener, and the Fighting Scots run-ruled the Battling Bishops in the nightcap, resulting in 1-0 and 12-4 victories over their North Coast Athletic Conference opponent at Delaware, Ohio.

Chase was almost unhittable in the opener, as she scattered just three singles over seven innings, while striking out three batters. Her counterpart, Sarah Flint, was also dominant in the circle, but the Scots (14-10, 5-1 NCAC) eventually got to the Bishops' ace in the seventh inning.

With one out against them, Stephenie Little, Demi Hart, and Jenna Kendall hit back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases. The next batter hit into a fielder's choice, which kept the bases juiced with two outs. Finally, Skye Patterson hit a ball into the infield that was misplayed, as Ohio Wesleyan (11-15, 2-8 NCAC) was charged with an error, allowing Hart to come home and score the go-ahead run.

Chase retired the next three Bishops in order – groundout, pop out, pop out – to notch the win and improve to 6-4 on the season.

The Scots took a different approach in the second game, as they showcased their offense early and often. Wooster scored five runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run from Kendall – her third long ball of the spring.

It was Georgia Hill's turn to go yard in the third inning, as she sent a three-run blast over the left field fence which gave Wooster an 8-0 advantage.

Wooster wasn't done, as it added four more runs in the fifth frame, with Paige Goldberg and Linea Brouse contributing RBI singles, and Carly Schoenstein a two-run double to left field. That put the Scots ahead by 11 (12-1), and the three runs Ohio Wesleyan added in the bottom of the inning still couldn't prevent it from suffering a five-inning, run-rule defeat.

Kate Edgehouse struck out two and walked none to pick up her sixth win of the year.

Overall, Goldberg was 4-for-7 with two runs, an RBI, and a stolen base, while Hill added four RBI to push her team-leading total to 28.

Tomorrow, the Scots host Allegheny College (7-9, 3-3 NCAC) for another conference doubleheader. The action starts at 3:30 p.m.
