Jenna Kendall totaled five hits during The College of Wooster's doubleheader with Baldwin Wallace University on Monday afternoon, including a three-run home run that propelled the Fighting Scots to 6-1 victory in the opener. The Yellow Jackets rallied in the nightcap to edge the Scots 7-6 in eight innings, resulting in a split for the non-conference foes at Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field in Berea, Ohio.

The first game was a tight one initially, with the score tied 1-1 entering the fourth inning, but Wooster (15-17) built itself a cushion over the next two frames. The Scots led off the fourth with three consecutive hits, as Stephenie Little and Kendall recorded singles, and then Linea Brouse knocked them both in with a two-run double down the left field line to make it 3-1.

Wooster added another three runs in the fifth, when Kendall smashed a home run to straightaway center field, giving the Scots the 6-1 advantage they rode to triumph.

For Kendall, it marked her team-leading fourth home run of the season – despite having just 76 at bats, the lowest total among Wooster's qualified hitters.

The sophomore was back at it in the nightcap, as she tripled in her first at bat, and then scored on the very next play – an RBI groundout from Brouse – which put the Scots up 1-0 after two innings.

Wooster pushed its lead to 4-0 in the top of the third, as Paige Goldberg clubbed an RBI double, and Little plated two more runs with a single up the middle.

Baldwin Wallace (13-22) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, with a two-run home run over the right field fence, to pull within 4-2. Wooster increased its lead in the sixth, though, when Kasey Fiedler plated pinch runner Lauren Abbott with a sacrifice fly, making it 5-2.

Leading by three in the bottom of the seventh inning, Wooster allowed the Yellow Jackets to get back into the game, as the hosts smacked another home run and hit a key double which eventually tied the game at 5-5 and prompted extra innings.

Carly Schoenstein's RBI single through the left side of the infield in the eighth had Wooster back in the driver's seat momentarily at 6-5, but Baldwin Wallace manufactured two runs in the bottom of the frame, which included stealing home on the final play of the game to take the back-and-forth tilt by a 7-6 count.

Overall, Kendall went 5-for-8 on the day, as did Goldberg, who was a perfect 4-for-4 in the opener and added another hit in game two. Also noteworthy on the offensive side, first-years Abbot and Anna Blake both entered into the lineup in the seventh inning of game one and proceeded to notch their first career hits. For Blake, it was also her first career at bat.

Kate Edgehouse notched her team-leading seventh win of the spring in the opener, as she scattered just six hits over seven strong innings, while striking out three.

The Scots will be back in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday when they visit Denison University (12-16, 4-6 NCAC). First pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
