Serrurier Hits Fourth Home Run of Year to Headline Wooster's Offense at Case Western Reserve

 Bridget Serrurier

Freshman Bridget Serrurier clubbed her team-leading fourth homer of the year for The College of Wooster softball team to highlight the offense, but it was host Case Western Reserve University that took the wins 10-2 and 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Mather Park in Cleveland.

Serrurier staked Wooster (9-11) to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the twin bill. The two-run blast moved the shortstop into a tie for the fourth-most homers in a single-season in program history.

The lead did not hold up as the Spartans (14-16) answered right back with a three-spot in the bottom of the frame.

CWRU put the game away when Annie Wennerberg helped her cause in the circle with a three-run homer in the sixth inning. The blast marked her program-best 29th for her career.

The Spartans' Katie Wede jump-started the offense in the second game with a solo homer in the first inning.

Wooster tied the contest in the third frame when a two-out single from Serrurier plated Taylor Raybuck.

Just as they did in the first game, the Spartans had an answer, this time plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.

Wooster scored its second run of the game in the fourth when Maddy Chase came in to score on an error.

Serrurier led the Scots at the plate with a 4-for-6 day with three RBIs. The freshman was backed up by Raybuck, who had two hits and a walk on the day.

Jenna Kendall pitched well in the second game, only allowing one earned run while scattering seven hits in the complete game effort.

Wooster opens North Coast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader at Allegheny College (4-8).
