Two-Out Hitting Rallies Wooster Back in Game One of Split with Ohio Wesleyan

Marissa Gorvet applies the tag on one of the two caught base stealers in the first game of today's twin bill.

WOOSTER, Ohio - Stephenie Little and Chelsea Copley connected on back-to-back two-out hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally The College of Wooster softball team to a 4-3 win over Ohio Wesleyan University prior to the Battling Bishops taking the second game 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Galpin Park.

Little tied the home opener at three ripping a two-out double into the right field corner to plate Jenna Kendall. Copley followed suit with an RBI single up the middle to knock in the go-ahead run.

Wooster (11-13, 2-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) plated its first runs of the afternoon in the third frame. Bridget Serrurier provided the big pop with a one-out double to right field that brought in Marissa Gorvet who led off the frame with a nicely-placed single down the left field line Kendall drove in the second run of the frame via a sacrifice fly with Taylor Raybuck hustling home and sliding in ahead of the tag.

Ohio Wesleyan (7-15, 2-4 NCAC) did all of its damage in the top of the third inning when Taylor Dickson knocked in a pair with a single up the middle and Lilly Gresh hit a sharp infield single to plate the third Bishop of the game.

Notable, Kasey Fiedler gunned down two would-be base stealers in the contest.

Maddy Chase picked up her eighth win of the year in the circle. The sophomore right-hander set down six straight to end the game and stranded five runners in scoring position for the game.

In the nightcap, Wooster did not get going offensively until the sixth inning. In that frame, the Scots loaded the bases up at one point on a Chase double, a Serrurier single, and a Little walk. Copley knocked in Chase on a single to center while Fiedler drove in Serrurier on a ground out.

Ohio Wesleyan struck in the top of the first for an early 2-0 lead and later tacked on two in the sixth.

Defensively, Chase turned an unassisted double play for Wooster.

Kendall took the loss in the circle scattering seven hits while only allowing one earned run in the complete-game effort.

Offensively, Copley, Little, and Serrurier led the Scots at the plate with three hits each on the day. Copley knocked in a pair while two of Serrurier three base knocks went for doubles.

The Bishops' Erin Ferguson led all hitters with four hits on the day while Dickson finished with four RBIs. Allie DeLooze picked up the win in the nightcap allowing two earned runs on eight hits in the complete game.

Next, Wooster returns to action at Kenyon College (13-10-1, 2-2 NCAC) on Saturday.
