Dominant Pitching, Big Hitters Shine Bright as Scots Sweep Hiram

WOOSTER, Ohio – Eleven runs on 14 hits in game one and a three-hit complete game performance from junior pitcher Maddy Chase in game two powered the Fighting Scots to a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Hiram College Terriers on Wednesday afternoon at Galpin Park.

Wooster (10-14, 2-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) came out hot in game one as Chase opened with a double to left center. Later in the inning, sophomore Chelsea Copley smacked a RBI single through the left side before first-year Marina Roski, who reached on a single to left field, scored the third and final run of the inning on a RBI groundout from senior Jenna Kendall.

First-year Taryn Kohlman went a combined 4-for-6 with one RBI on the day.

Twice the offensive production, scoring-wise, materialized in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a homer from Kendall – her first of the year – which brought in two. Prior to Kendall's long shot, four Scots crossed home plate, bringing the advantage to nine entering the top of the third.

Notable, Kendall, who hurled five innings of shutout ball, moved into a tie for sixth for most shutouts in program history (4).

After a four-batter top of the third, senior Stephenie Little hit a solo home run – her second of the year – to bring the lead to 10. Of note, Little's home run moved her into a tie for sixth-most all-time in program history (6). The Scots tacked on a final run in the bottom of the fourth, as first-year Samantha Tromba came through on a RBI single from Chase.

Also worth noting was first-year Taryn Kohlman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in the opener.

In the second half of the twin bill, Chase went the full seven innings behind a three-hit, one-run performance en route to her 20th career win clad in plaid.

Up 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Roski found her way home for the game-winning run on a two-out double from Little.

Later on in the inning, after senior Linea Brouse walked and Copley reached on an error at second base, Kendall added cushion with a two-RBI single down the leftfield line.

From the circle, Chase struck out four of the next nine batters – including three of the first six – before Kohlman brought in Tromba with a RBI double to left-center in the sixth inning after Tromba reach on an error and proceeded to steal second base.

In the top of the seventh, Hiram's (4-14, 0-2 NCAC) Kourtney Hol doubled to left center to bring in Haley Adams for the Terriers' lone run of the afternoon.

On the day, Little went a combined 4-for-5 with three RBI and four runs while Kendall went 3-for-6 with six RBI. In addition, Kohlman went 4-for-6 with one RBI.

Among others, providing heads up defense in the outfield for the Scots was Copley, who gunned down two would-be singles with put-outs to first base from right field.
