Game Two Comeback Spoiled as Wooster Splits against Kenyon

WOOSTER, Ohio – After a 7-2 win in the day's opener, a game-tying, two-run homer from senior Jenna Kendall tied it late in the nightcap against Kenyon College, but a two-run top of the seventh from the Ladies prevented a sweep as The College of Wooster softball team came away with split decisions on Saturday afternoon at Galpin Park.

Wooster (11-15, 3-3 North Coast Athletic Conference) took the opener behind consistent hitting in addition to solid pitching from junior Maddy Chase, who went the full seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six.

Sophomore Bridget Serrurier went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the opener, knocking in two runs on a two-out double to left center to kick start a three-run second inning.

The Fighting Scots tacked on one run in the fourth after a RBI groundout from first-year Marina Roski, and then an additional two more in the fifth. Kendall brought home sophomore Chelsea Copley on a sacrifice fly and Serrurier recorded her third RBI of the game on a single to second which brought in first-year Morgan Bailey.

In the nightcap, Kendall received the start, allowing five runs in four innings of work.

The Ladies (11-19, 3-3 NCAC) took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third inning behind a three-run homer from Grace Pilz.

Wooster fought back to tie it in the bottom half of the inning, as Roski brought in Chase on a sacrifice fly to right field. Later on, Serrurier scored after senior Linea Brouse punched a hard-hit roller to Kenyon shortstop Amanda Coyle, who mishandled the play to allow the tying run.

The Ladies took back a two-run lead in the top of the fourth, but a two-run homer from Kendall leveled it back at five heading into the seventh. Of note, Kendall's home run marked the sixth of her career, tying her for seventh-place all-time in program history with classmate Stephenie Little.

The buck stopped there for the Scots, however, as Kenyon rallied with two in the top of the seventh to come out with a 7-5 win for a series split.

Wooster is back in action on Sunday, April 9, as the Scots play host to John Carroll University (9-9, 2-4 Ohio Athletic Conference) with first pitch set for noon.
