The College of Wooster softball team split with Denison University on Sunday to bring their overall record to 3-1 after a 9-1 5-inning win and a 7-4 loss.

In game one, the offense backed starter Olivia Johnson who threw all five innings, struck out eight and allowed just one earned run.

In her first appearance, first-year Stephanie Griffin put Wooster on the board first with an RBI double down the left field line to score Heidi Likins. Likins later in the third inning made it a 3-0 behind a two-run single up the middle.

Wooster then had a four-run fourth as Molly Likins continued with the hot bat with a two-run double to right center. Katie Agatucci, in her first game of the season, hit an RBI single, and Gabby Lakes followed with one of her own to score Agatucci.

In the fifth, Griffin tallied her first collegiate home run to left field. Molly Likins then concluded scoring with an RBI single up the middle.

Molly Likins, Agatucci and Griffin all finished the game with two hits as Wooster collectively put up 12 hits.

In game two, Molly Likins put Wooster ahead early with a solo home run in the first. Brooke Swain made it 2-0 in the third after stealing third base and advancing home on an error by the catcher.

In the bottom of the third, Denison got to starter Marissa Norgrove, putting up four runs in the inning, chasing her out with two outs. Sophomore Addie Tagg relieved her to get out of the inning.

Tagg pitched the fourth and the fifth, allowing one run. Wooster got two runs back in the top of the sixth with a Lakes RBI double and a Heidi Likins RBI single to left center.

Denison (1-2) then tacked on two in the sixth off Tagg before Rachael Dudziak came in to record the final out.

In the seventh, Wooster had the tying run up at the plate with two outs but could not muster the comeback.

Wooster had six hits in game two. Lakes finished 2-for-2 and was the only Scot with more than one hit.

Molly Likins finished the day 3-for-7. She finished the four game series 9-for-15 with three home runs, 10 RBI, two doubles and a walk.

Wooster will face Case Western Reserve University next weekend in a non-conference affair.
