Senior Salute: Olivia Johnson

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Olivia Johnson, a biochemistry and molecular biology major from Thornville, Ohio. Johnson is a member of the softball team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster because of the amazing academic and research opportunities that it provides and the feeling of home and family that the campus and the softball program give me.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: Being a collegiate athlete has allowed me to show my dedication to my team while also showing dedication in my academics. As a Fighting Scot, I am able to represent the school on and off the field in a respectful and positive way.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories at Wooster include accomplishing rewarding tasks in my academics and making unforgettable memories with my team everywhere we go.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete at Wooster is the opportunity to represent the school in multiple ways. From on the field to in the classroom, I am proud to be known as a Fighting Scot.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a member of The Community Care Network health coach program, the First Response Team, and I'm involved in a couple clubs including the Pre-Health Club.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: A faculty member who has had the greatest impact on me is the whole biochemistry and molecular biology staff at Wooster. The professors involved in this program are so dedicated with helping and facilitating students to succeed and devote so much time to our research and learning.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Being a member of Coach (Victoria) Rumph's softball program has taught me to improve my mental strength, work ethic, and dedication to things that I am passionate about in all aspects of my life.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study project involves studying the infection process of bacterial cells infecting host eukaryotic cells through a specific secretion system.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: During our spring break trips to Florida, we were able to compete with ranked teams around the country and gain experience playing, and even winning, against many tough teams.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: I would tell my first-year self to accept failure and realize that it is a part of growing as a person.
