The College of Wooster softball team was swept by Hiram College on Sunday, 7-5 and 9-4, as the two teams jockeyed for early positioning in the NCAC East standings.

Wooster committed five errors across the two games, but the two in game one really came to the forefront as only three of the seven runs were earned.

Starter Olivia Johnson went six innings, struck out eight and allowed just two earned runs. Both earned runs came in the seventh when Hiram struck for four runs to mount the comeback.

The first two runners reached to begin the inning before Johnson was relieved by classmate Marissa Norgrove. With one out and the bases loaded, leadoff hitter Abriana Schwartz hit a bases clearing double to give Hiram its first lead of the game. An error during the next at bat scored the final run.

Offensively, the Scots were led by a leadoff hitter Emmalee Cooke who went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. First-year Stephanie Griffin went 3-for-4, and Brooke Swain went 2-for-3.

Katie Agatucci and Gabby Lakes each recorded an RBI.

Hiram pitcher Bailey Scheck went all seven innings to collect the win.

In game two, Hiram broke open a 1-1 tie with a grand slam from Jeskari Rodriguez in the third inning. They then tallied a run in the fifth and the sixth as well as two in the seventh to keep the pressure on the Scots.

Griffin tried to kickstart the rally with a two-run home run in the fifth to make it a 6-3 game. Earlier, she tied the game at 1-1 with a double to center field. In the sixth, Anna Norby recorded an RBI single in the sixth.

Griffin and Norby each finished 2-for-3. Swain finished 2-for-4 as the only other Scot to obtain more than two hits.

Rodriguez pitched four innings to collect the win for Hiram. Scheck pitched the final 2.2 innings for the save.

First-year Rachael Dudziak took the loss after giving up the grand slam. Sophomore Addie Tagg pitched three innings of relief. She struck out two and allowed two runs, both of which were unearned.

Wooster drops to .500 at 6-6 and 1-3 in the NCAC East. Hiram moves to 8-9 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Wooster will head to Allegheny College next Saturday for another conference matchup and will host the Gators on Sunday.
