GAMBIER, Ohio – The College of Wooster softball team defeated Kenyon College in two games on Saturday, 7-0 and 11-1 (5 innings).

Senior Olivia Johnson (5-3) pitched a complete game shutout in game 1, allowing two hits. She needed just 83 pitches to get the job done, and 68 of those pitches were strikes.

First-year Stephanie Griffin put Wooster on the board in the first inning with an RBI single up the middle. A 3-run third made it 4-0 as the Scots scored on an error, a sac fly and then a solo home run from Molly Likins.

Johnson helped herself out in the fourth with an RBI double. Wooster then tacked on two more runs in the sixth behind RBI singles from Likins and Anna Norby.

Wooster had eight players reach base and collected 12 hits for the game. Norby finished with a game-high three hits and scored twice. Likins and Griffin were each 2-for-4.

In game two, senior Marissa Norgrove needed just five innings to go the whole way as the offense produced a run in every inning in route to an 11-1 win. Norgrove struck out six to improve to 6-2 on the year.

Nine batters reached base for the Scots in game two. Griffin was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Likins again cleared the fence to finish 2-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored.

Wooster opened the game with four runs in the first by playing a bit of small ball. Junior Brooke Swain got on base and later scored on a wild pitch. Gabby Lakes collected an RBI on a groundout, and Heidi Likins hit a sac fly. Griffin then had an RBI single to score Katie Agatucci.

Emmalee Cooke and Norby each had RBI singles. Swain collected an RBI on a fielder's choice, while Heidi Likins and Griffin added to their RBI total with singles in the fourth.

Wooster had 12 hits in the game and benefitted from five errors on Kenyon's side.

Swain had three stolen bases today to push her season total to 17, which surpasses the single season record of 16 from Kate Kiley in 2008.

Wooster improves to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in the NCAC East. Kenyon drops to 0-8 and 0-6 in conference play. The two teams meet again Sunday in Wooster.
