Scots Put Up Monstrous Numbers in Sweep of Kenyon

Wooster's 29 runs they plated Sunday were one shy of the program record.

The College of Wooster softball team had quite the impressive offensive display to sweep Kenyon College in two games on Sunday to complete the four-game weekend sweep and extend their win streak to eight.

In game one, Wooster fell one run shy of tying the program record in runs scored in a 29-1 win in five innings. In game two, they had a more modest 7-1 win.

The 29 runs were the second most in a DIII game this spring, while their 26 hits and 25 RBI tied for second this spring.

The hits and RBI are new program records in a game, as was their 41 total bases.

Individually, junior Brooke Swain went 5-for-5 atop the lineup to tie having most hits in a game. Swain and senior Olivia Johnson, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, double and five RBI, together broke the most runs scored in a game with five each.

Johnson's five RBI weren't even the most on the team as that honor went to classmate Emmalee Cooke. Cooke finished 3-for-6 with two doubles and her six RBI fell one short of the single game school record.

Wooster led 5-0 after two innings and then proceeded to put up 12 runs in both the third and fourth innings. 11 players recorded at least one hit.

Johnson, Molly Likins and Anna Norby each hit one home run and one double. Norby finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, and Katie Agatucci also hit a double in a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.

On the mound, Johnson was perfect through the first three innings. However, after Wooster batted through the lineup in the third, Kenyon got their lone run across in the fourth. Johnson struck out seven to improve to 6-3 on the year.

The offense fell back to earth in game two but not before a three-run first inning. With two outs, Wooster scored two runs on an error, and then scored another on an RBI double from Agatucci.

Agatucci went a game best 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI to finish with six hits on the day.

Game two also endured a one-hour rain delay.

Senior Marissa Norgrove pitched six innings and struck out eight batters. She struck out five batters in a row between the third and fifth innings.

Sophomore Addie Tagg pitched a clean seventh to wrap up the game.

Wooster is now 14-6 overall and 9-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Kenyon drops to 0-10 and 0-8 in conference play.

The Scots will travel to Hiram next Saturday in non-conference action.
