HIRAM, Ohio -- The College of Wooster softball team and Hiram College split a pair of non-conference matchups on Saturday. Hiram won game one 1-0, and Wooster took game two 3-0.

In game one, senior Olivia Johnson was on the wrong end of a pitcher's duel. However, the only run scored in the bottom of the fifth came unearned.

The leadoff batter for Hiram reached via an error and later scored on a single. Johnson then found herself in a jam with runners on second and third with none out but struck out the next two batters and forced a groundout to get out of the inning.

Unfortunately, Wooster's offense mustered just five hits, including just one in the final two frames.

Johnson (6-4) pitched all six innings and struck out eight. Her counterpart, Kaitlyn Hager, struck out five in the shutout.

Wooster's top three batters atop the lineup went 4-for-12. Molly Likins went 2-for-3, while Brooke Swain and Emmalee Cooke went 1-for-3. All five hits for Wooster were singles.

In game two, senior Marissa Norgrove led the Scots with a complete seven-inning shutout. She allowed just three hits and struck out one.

Hiram recorded a leadoff double to start the bottom of the seventh, but Norgrove (8-2) was able to get the next three batters out.

The offense did not record an RBI in the game, scoring on two passed balls and an error. Swain scored twice, and Lilly McLendon scored the other.

Wooster again recorded five hits. Likins went 3-for-4 with a double. Cooke went 1-for-4, and McLendon went 1-for-3.

Wooster moves to 15-7, while Hiram moves to 19-10, snapping a 13-game winning streak.

The two teams meet again Sunday in Wooster in two more non-conference games.
