The College of Wooster softball team defeated Hiram College 10-2 in five innings in game one and then won in extras in game two 11-10 (9 innings) for a Sunday sweep of the Terriers in non-conference action.

Offense wasn't an issue in either game for the Scots, and senior Olivia Johnson ended up getting the win in both games.

In game one, Johnson went the complete five innings, allowed one earned run and struck out 11.

That one earned run came via a home run from the second batter of the game. However, momentum shifted back to Wooster in the bottom of the inning when junior Molly Likins answered with a shot of her own.

It was Likins's eighth home run of the season, tying the single season program record set by Marina Roski in 2018, who just happened to be in attendance of today's games.

Wooster went deep again during a six-run third inning. After Brooke Swain led the inning off with a double, senior Emmalee Cooke brought her home with a home run to left field.

The offense kept churning along there. Junior Katie Agatucci drew a walk with the bases loaded before senior Heidi Likins cleared the bases with a 3-run double.

Wooster then walked with the bases twice more in the fifth, and Anna Norby hit an RBI single to end the game in five innings.

The Scots collected 11 hits in the game. Molly and Heidi Likins each went 2-for-2 while everyone in the lineup reached base at least once.

Game two needed a bit more work even though Wooster jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning. Junior Gabby Lakes cleared the bases this time with a 3-run double, and Agatucci scored one on another double.

Starting pitcher Marissa Norgrove faced the minimum through the first two innings but ran into trouble in the third when Hiram struck for three runs. Wooster got all three runs back in the bottom of the inning to lead 8-3 after three innings.

Hiram's Mariah Sheffield hit a 3-run home run in the third to cut Wooster's lead to two. Sophomore Addie Tagg relieved Norgrove with two outs and a runner on third and got out of the inning.

Hiram tied the game in the sixth with two runs on three hits. Johnson entered the game with a runner on and two outs to get out of the inning.

The teams went to extras tied 8-8 with the international tiebreaker rule now in play. Wooster, who had no errors up to that point, committed three errors in the inning to aid Hiram to two runs.

Luckily, the Scots answered with two runs of their own. First-year Ciara Herbert collected her first collegiate RBI at the right time, bringing home Molly Likins on a sac bunt where a close play at the plate went in favor of Likins. Then Heidi Likins came up again with the bases loaded and walked.

Wooster had zero outs with the bases loaded but could not end the game then. After holding Hiram scoreless in the ninth, Wooster got the job done then with just one batter.

With Swain on second, Cooke advanced her on a sac bunt but a throwing error from the catcher in an attempt to get Cooke out a first went wide which allowed Swain to score the game-winning run.

Johnson did not allow an earned run in 3 1/3 innings to collect the win and move to 8-4 on the year.

Agatucci went 4-for-5 with a double and one RBI. Lakes was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Cooke went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Wooster moves to 17-7 overall, while Hiram drops to 19-12. Wooster returns to action Saturday when they host Allegheny College for its senior recognition day.
