Scots Collect Saturday Sweep on Senior Recognition Day

Heidi Likins
Heidi Likins collected 5 RBI on three hits Saturday to bump her season
batting average to .347.

Two big first innings gave The College of Wooster softball team the edge on Saturday as they took two against Allegheny College, 8-2 and 8-0 (5 innings).

In game one, Wooster put up four in the first inning. After an out from the leadoff batter, Wooster singled four consecutive times to tie the game 1-1. Then, senior Heidi Likins cleared the bases with a three-run double to right center.

Wooster broke up a 4-2 game in the fifth with another four-run inning. Likins again came through with the bases loaded with an RBI single to center field.

Senior Olivia Johnson walked to bring home another run, and Brooke Swain brought home two on another single to center field.

On the mound, Johnson put together another quality start to improve to 9-4 on the year. She went the complete game and struck out seven, which included her 300th career strikeout.

Heidi Likins finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and had the team's only extra base hit. Molly Likins and Stephanie Griffin each collected a pair of hits as well.

In game two, Wooster batted around the lineup to score six in the first inning. Griffin hit a two-run double to center field, and Gabby Lakes followed with a two-run laser over the right field fence for her second home run of the year.

Not satisfied there, Katie Agatucci and Heidi Likins hit back-to-back doubles to make it 5-0. Likins then scored on a single to right field from Anna Norby.

Those runs were plenty for senior starter Marissa Norgrove (9-2) who allowed just two hits across five innings and struck out three. Norgrove was perfect through 3.1 innings until a soft roller to short ended her shot at perfection.

Wooster collected eight hits in game two, and Norby finished a team-best 2-for-2 at the plate.

The team celebrated its five seniors prior to the game in Emmalee CookeRachel Ginsburg, Johnson, Heidi Likins and Norgrove.

The win in game two was Wooster's fifth straight as they move to 19-7 overall. Allegheny drops to 4-16.

The two teams meet again in a doubleheader 1 p.m. Sunday at Allegheny.
