Clutch Home Runs Propel Scots in Sweep of Gators

Emmalee Cooke
Senior Emmalee Cooke broke a 5-5 tie with a 3-run home run on Sunday.

Meadville, Pa. – Seniors Emmalee Cooke and Heidi Likins each connected on a pair of three-run home runs to give Wooster to the Sunday sweep of Allegheny College on Sunday, 10-5 and 8-4.

The seniors reached the 20-win mark for the second time in their careers. Wooster has now won seven straight and 15 of their last 16 to improve to 21-7 on the year.

A three-run home run from Cooke broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the sixth to lift the Scots in game one.

It was one of four homers in the game as Likins hit a solo shot in the fourth to start what would be a two home run day for the senior. Allegheny's Hayley Behr connected with a three-run shot in the first, and Cameron Long added a two-run home run in the third.

Both were blemishes in sophomore starter Addie Tagg's first career start. She struck out three in 2.1 innings before senior Olivia Johnson came in facing a 5-1 deficit.

Johnson steadied the ship, allowing just two hits and striking out six in finishing out the remaining 4.2 innings. Johnson improved to 9-4 with the win.

The Scots collected 13 hits in the game. Likins and Anna Norby each went 3-for-4. Norby added a double and a pair of RBI.

Cooke finished 2-for-4 and scored three times, while Johnson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Cooke also accomplished another feat, standing alone in the record books after getting hit with a pitch for the 10th time in her career.

In game two, Likins connected with her three-run shot in the fifth in what would be a five-run inning for the Scots.

Wooster entered the inning trailing 4-3. Gabby Lakes walked with the bases loaded to tie the game, and Katie Agatucci recorded an RBI on a fielder's choice before Likins' blast.

Likins, who has 12 career home runs, is now one shy of tying the career record set by Marina Roski. Elsewhere, Brooke Swain scored her 34th run of the season, which set a new single-season record.

First-year Rachael Dudziak started the game. She went 3.1 innings in the no decision and pitched two scoreless opening frames before running into trouble in the third and the fourth.

Senior Marissa Norgrove pitched 3.2 innings of relief and allowed just one hit to collect her 10th win of the season.

Stephanie Griffin finished game two 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Lilly McLendon finished 2-for-2 with a walk.

With the losses, Allegheny drops to 4-18.

Next, Wooster plays two at Wittenberg University on Thursday.
