Scots 4-2 Halfway Through Spring Games

Gabby Lakes CLERMONT, Fla. -- The College of Wooster softball team is 4-2 halfway through its Florida spring break trip to open its 2022 season.

The Scots opened with a 8-6 win over the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a 9-5 win over Stockton University. They also captured a 5-3 win over Framingham State University and most recently a 9-7 win over Carthage College.

The Scots' two losses came at the hands of ranked opponents. The Scots played 15th-ranked The College of New Jersey to a 1-1 game through six innings but ultimately fell 8-1. They then lost 2-1 to ninth-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University in the Warriors' lowest offensive outing of the year.

Senior Molly Likins had led the offense with a .400 batting average. She is 8-for-20 with three doubles, a triple and a team-high seven RBI.

Classmate Gabby Lakes has laced a team-high four doubles in lieu of a .333 (5-for-15) batting average. Sophomore Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez is second on the team with a .389 (7-for-18) average, adding four RBI and four SB.

Sophomore Rachael Dudziak has been a workhorse on the mound, logging 23.1 innings with a 3.00 ERA. She collected the win over Stockton, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just three runs.

Dudziak has also been called on to close out games, recording a save against Framingham State and Carthage.

Junior Addie Tagg recorded two wins in each of her appearances. She has pitched 6.2 innings with six strikeouts and a team-best 1.05 ERA.

Wooster has wanted to run this year and, so far, has accumulated 21 stolen bases. Senior leadoff hitter Brooke Swain has been the catalyst for that with six steals. After day one she broke the career program record for steals, surpassing the 33 needed.

The Scots continue on Friday with games against Fredonia State University and Hood College.
