Scots Close Florida Trip with Two Wins

CLERMONT, Fla. – The College of Wooster softball team wrapped up play on its spring break trip to start the year at 7-5.

Wooster went 3-3 in its final six games and ended on a two-game winning streak with wins over Hood College, 11-10, Hope College, 4-3, and Colby College, 5-3.

They took losses to SUNY Fredonia, 10-3, Williams College, 10-6, and fell to St. Catherine University 8-0 in five innings.

Three batters finished batting above .400 on the trip – seniors Molly Likins (.444), Brooke Swain (.422) and sophomore Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez (.417).

Senior Katie Agatucci led the team with 13 RBI while batting a clip at .325.

Sophomore Rachael Dudziak proved to be the team's top pitcher, logging 50 innings for a 3-3 record and a 3.92 ERA. She also earned three saves, moving quickly up the program leaderboards.

In the Scots' 11-10 win over Hood, Agatucci went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Kaydee Clark went 2-for-4 with three RBI. The catcher finished at .344 for the trip.

The Scots put up a much-needed four spot in the top of the seventh as Colby scored six in the bottom of the inning to trail by one. However, Dudziak was able to get out of the jam to secure the win and the complete game.

In Monday's 4-3 win against Hope, Dudziak pitched another complete game for her fourth of the year. She allowed just three earned runs on six hits and struck out three.

Likins struck for her first home run of the season with a shot to right field in the bottom of the second. Hope got one back in the fourth before Wooster scored three in the bottom of the inning.

Agatucci brought home two with a double to left center, and Clark brought her home on a single to left.

Hope rallied for two in in the sixth, but Dudziak allowed just one hit in the seventh to close the game out.

The Scots wrapped up its trip with its win over Colby. Griffin-Sanchez put Wooster on the board with a single and Swain scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third. Destany Blake then singled to score Clark in the fourth.

In the seventh, Ciara Herbert gave Wooster an insurance run, and Dudziak finished three strong, scoreless innings for the save. Senior Daphne Pate went four innings and gave up three runs in the start to earn the win.

Wooster will get little time to rest when they return home. They travel to Transylvania University for two games Saturday and then travel to Mount St. Joseph University for two games on Sunday.
