Scots Split with Transylvania

Ciara Herbert LEXINGTON, Ky. – The College of Wooster softball team split with Transylvania University on Saturday with a 9-1 (5 inn.) loss and a 9-6 win.

The Scots went down quietly in game one with just one run on three hits as Anna Norby got the only RBI.

Brooke SwainKaydee Clark and Sarah Lodge each recorded a hit in the game. Sophomore Rachael Dudziak took the loss in the start, leaving after seeing just three batters, all of whom scored.

First-year Abby Eberly finished out the game with two innings of hitless softball, walking two and striking out two.

In game two, Wooster's bats came alive, scoring in all but the first two innings. They broke the seal with a three-run third inning as Ciara Herbert recorded an RBI on an error. Molly Likins walked with the bases loaded, and Clark produced another run on another infield error.

Transylvania (10-8) got the three runs back in the bottom of the inning against starter Daphne Pate, but Wooster put up another three spot in the fourth.

First-year Brooke Nolan had a big two-run double to make it 5-3, while Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez brought her home on a single to right center.

Dudziak relieved Pate after one out in the fourth and got out of a jam as Wooster led 6-4.

Dudziak later helped herself with an RBI single to score Lodge. Clark recorded an RBI single in the sixth to make it 8-4. Finally, Norby scored on a failed pickoff attempt in the seventh.

Dudziak collected the win in 3.2 innings of work. She allowed two earned runs and struck out two. Pate ended up allowing four earned runs and struck out three.

Griffin-Sanchez and Destany Blake each led the Scots with two hits.

Next, Wooster (8-8) debuts at home on Tuesday against Muskingum University (12-4), who recently dropped out of the NFCA DIII Coaches Poll.
