Likins Goes Yard in Home Opener as Scots Fall in Doubleheader to Muskingum

Molly Likins The College of Wooster softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Muskingum University on Wednesday in the team's home opener.

Wooster fell 10-9 in eight innings in game one and then 10-0 in five innings in game two.

Wooster (8-10) forced game one into extra innings after scoring two runs in each the sixth and seventh innings. Yet, Muskingum (14-4) was able to strike in the eighth to capture the win.

Wooster had 15 hits in game one, sparked by senior Molly Likins who went deep in her first at bat to score three. She finished 4-for-5 with five RBI.

Sophomore Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez was equally as good, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and a double. Classmate Kaydee Clark went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Ciara Herbert went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

Rachael Dudziak took the loss in the start, lasting three innings and giving up nine runs, five of which were earned.

Junior Addie Tagg came in, pitched admirably with a solid five innings and gave up no earned runs. The only run she gave up was with the automatic runner on second base in the eighth.

In game two, Wooster went down quietly 10-0 in five innings.

The Scots were shutdown by pitcher Hannah Smith who struck out four and allowed just three hits. Katie Agatucci, Clark and Herbert recorded hits for the Scots.

Senior starter Daphne Pate took the loss. She gave up eight runs in three innings.

Wooster will hope to change its fortunes this weekend when they open North Coast Athletic Conference play. They travel to Wittenberg University on Saturday and then to 10th-ranked DePauw University on Sunday.
