Scots Struggle to Figure out Terriers

Katie Agatucci A frustrating day at the office for The College of Wooster softball team as they dropped a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference games on Saturday to Hiram College, 5-3 and 5-2.

Hiram set the tone early in game one with a 3-run first inning that included a two-run shot from Kylie Perez.

Wooster's offense came from the hands of sophomore Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez who went 3-for-4 with three RBI. She put Wooster on the board with a single in the third and later cut Hiram's lead to one with a two-run home run in the fifth.

Unfortunately, that was all the offense Wooster could muster in the game. Brooke SwainMolly Likins and Katie Agatucci all added a hit.

Junior Addie Tagg settled on the mound after the 3-run first inning. She pitched the complete game and struck out four.

Hiram pitcher Darian Kanno also went the whole way, striking out eight in the win.

In game two, Hiram again jumped out early with two runs in the first. However, Wooster responded in the bottom of the frame as Agatucci doubled to bring home Likins. Agatucci later scored on an error.

The offense did not do much from there. Agatucci finished 2-for-2 with a walk. Likins, Kaydee ClarkDestany Blake and Ciara Herbert all recorded a hit.

Hiram was consistent in its scoring. Kanno doubled in the third to make it 3-2, and Hiram would score another run in the fourth and fifth innings.

Sophomore Rachael Dudziak started and went four innings in the loss. She struck out three.

Senior Daphne Pate went three solid innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one.

Wooster falls to 11-15 overall and 3-5 in the NCAC. Hiram moves to 11-11 and 4-2 in conference play.

Next, Wooster has a full schedule next week, starting week a trip to Denison University on Tuesday.
