Likins Ties Home Run Record as Scots Sweep Gators

Molly Likins Senior Molly Likins tied the program record for career home runs on Wednesday as The College of Wooster softball team swept Allegheny College, 4-3 and 12-3 (5 inn.).

Likins hit her 14th home run in game one and her 15th in game two. She now ties her sister Heidi for most home runs in program history.

Likins' first home run broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth as her rocket hit off the scoreboard in right field.

Likins and Brooke Swain each led Wooster in game one with two hits. Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez got Wooster on the board with a single to center field to score Swain in the third.

Junior Addie Tagg had a solid outing on the mound. She improved to 5-3 after going the complete seven innings, throwing just 77 pitches and striking out three.

Wooster tied its season-high in runs scored in game two, backing first-year pitcher Abby Eberly.

Eberly made just her seventh appearance and fourth start of the year, and it was arguably her best. She collected her first collegiate win and complete game, going five innings and allowing three runs.

Likins gave Eberly immediate support with a 3-run shot in the first inning. Allegheny cut the lead to one in the top of the fourth before Wooster scored nine runs on nine hits in the bottom of the inning.

Wooster batted around in the fourth and went on a double frenzy. The Scots hit six doubles in the inning, all of which recorded at least one RBI.

Anna Norby started by scoring Destany Blake and Kaydee Clark. Gabby Lakes then pinch hit to record the next.

Then with two outs, Wooster hit three consecutive doubles as Griffin-Sanchez, Likins and Katie Agatucci all traded places.

Lilly McLendon then got in on the fun with an RBI single before Blake rounded out the inning with a two-run double.

Allegheny got one back in the fifth, but the game ended on a double play as Agatucci caught the second out in right field and threw out a runner trying for home.

Wooster finished with 12 hits in the game. Likins led with four RBI.

Wooster moves to 13-15 overall and 5-5 in conference play. Allegheny falls to 8-15-1 and 4-4 in the NCAC.

Next, Wooster will look to keep the momentum with a trip to Denison University on Friday.
