Scots Salvage Split with OWU

Addie Tagg The College of Wooster softball team needed 10 innings in game two to earn a split with Ohio Wesleyan University in North Coast Athletic Conference competition on Saturday.

After going scoreless in a 1-0 loss in game one, Wooster went for nine runs in game two but needed 10 innings to secure a 9-8 win.

In game two, Wooster jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Destany Blake and Molly Likins each recorded an RBI, and Katie Agatucci hit a two-run double.

Later in the fifth, Wooster put up three more runs. Kaydee Clark had a fielder's choice RBI, and first-year Sarah Lodge made the most of her start, hitting a two-run single.

Wooster led 8-3 after four and a half, but Ohio Wesleyan brought across three in the bottom of the fifth and another two in the sixth to tie the game. The Scots scored the winning run in the 10th when Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez scored Lodge on a ground out to short.

Senior Daphne Pate, who entered in the sixth, got out of the bottom of the 10th with a runner on third and no outs. She recorded a groundout for out one, then Likins fielded a grounder at third and threw out the runner trying for home. Pate then got the final batter to foul out at first base.

Pate went the final 4.1 innings and allowed just one hit to record the win. Starter Abby Eberly went 2.1 and gave up three earned runs. In middle relief, Rachael Dudziak pitched 3.1 innings and gave up five runs, but only two were earned.

Blake and Lodge each recorded three hits to lead the squad.

In game one, the offense only mustered two hits, behind Agatucci and Lilly McLendon. They couldn't back junior starter Addie Tagg who allowed just one run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

From there, she went the distance and allowed just three hits herself. Katie Chittum collected the two-hitter and win for Ohio Wesleyan.

Wooster is now 15-17 overall and 7-7 in NCAC play. Ohio Wesleyan moves to 10-18 and 6-6 in the NCAC.

The Scots will return home Tuesday for its final NCAC regular season doubleheader of the year when they host Oberlin College.
