Wooster Splits with ONU as Pate Delivers in Game 2

Daphne Pate ADA – The College of Wooster softball team split with Ohio Northern University on Thursday, falling in game one 6-1 and taking game two, 4-2. 

Senior Daphne Pate went the distance in game two for her first collegiate complete game, going seven innings and striking out two.

She also helped herself out at the plate with an RBI on an infield grounder. That followed an RBI single from first-year Destany Blake for the Scots to take a 2-0 lead in the second.

Ohio Northern tied the game in the fourth after the first three batters of the inning reached on singles. Pate limited the damaged, as two groundouts brought home two runs, but she got the last batter to pop out.

Wooster retook the lead when senior Katie Agatucci doubled down the left field line in the fifth to score classmate Brooke SwainKaydee Clark then brought Agatucci home on a single to the left side.

Agatucci finished 2-for-3, and Molly Likins went 2-for-4.

In game one, Swain went a perfect 4-for-4 from atop the lineup, contributing to half of Wooster's eight hits. Ohio Northern set the tone early with a two-run shot from Kaylie Griffin in the bottom of the first.

Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez gave Wooster its lone run in the third on a sacrifice fly. Ohio Northern plated another two in the fourth, and Griffin again connected in the sixth, scoring two on a single to center field.

Junior Addie Tagg pitched all six innings. She struck out three, and five of those runs were earned.

Wooster moves to 17-19 overall, while Ohio Northern moves to 17-9.
