Jennings Named First Team All-Region

Julia Jennings

NFCA Release

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently released its 2023 All-Region Awards and among the selections was Wooster first-year Julia Jennings.

Jennings is the first Scot to earn first team recognition and the first to be named All-Region since Olivia Johnson in 2019 when she made the third team.

Jennings is one of 373 student-athletes to be recognized. The awards honor student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with selection to one of three teams.

NFCA member head coaches nominate and then vote for the winners in their respective region.

Jennings adds to her accolades after being named the North Coast Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year as well as an All-NCAC First Team selection.

She broke the single season program record with a .450 batting average (59-of-131), which included a leading conference average of .529 (27-of-51). She reached base in every NCAC game and recorded a hit in 13 of the 14 games as well.

Jennings totaled four doubles and was second on the team with 20 RBI, in addition to a team-high .471 on base percentage. She recorded 16 multi-hit games and held a team-high 16-game hitting streak, which fell one shy of the school record.

She also fielded at third base to a .952 percentage, helping turn six double plays in the process.

Jennings joined Annabelle Calderdon from Denison University as the only two NCAC selections on the first team. Hiram's Darian Kanno made the second team and Giselle Bahena made the third team.

All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 31 online and on-site at the NCAA Division III Finals banquet in Marshall, Texas.
