Rumph To Be Inducted In Youngstown State Hall of Fame

Victoria Rumph YSU Release

The College of Wooster head softball coach Victoria Rumph is being enshrined in the Youngstown State Hall of Fame.

Rumph was a four-year starter for the Penguins' softball team, spending most of her time behind the plate as a catcher. She left as the program's all-time leader in RBI (123) and was the first player in program history to hit above a .300 batting average with more than 20 home runs and 100 RBI.

She now ranks seventh in hits, is tied for eighth in home runs and is fourth in RBI.

"It's an absolute honor to be inducted into YSU's Hall of Fame," Rumph said. "I had the time of my life with my teammates playing the sport I love. I am forever grateful to my coaches for taking a chance on me, giving me an opportunity that opened so many doors for me and for always believing in me - even after I graduated."

Rumph earned a pair of All-Horizon League second team certificates and was a third team Capital One Academic All-America® honoree as a junior.

In 2013, she led the Penguins to the Horizon League Tournament Championship game and was named to the 2013 Canadian Senior Women's National Team in the summer.

She went on to play for Softball Canada's Women's National Team for nearly a decade. She became a Pan American Softball Championship Silver Medalist, played in the World Cup of Softball and competed for the Canadian Open Fastpitch Championship.

She earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Youngstown State and later earned her master's degree in adult education at Muskingum University. In addition, she spent one season as a volunteer assistant for the softball program at Youngstown State before moving on as an assistant at Muskingum.

In six years as the Wooster softball coach, Rumph has accumulated a .506 winning percentage (117-114) with three trips to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
