Atkins Named Softball Assistant Coach
Local coach will work primarily with Fighting Scot pitchers
After starting the year as a volunteer assistant, Joni Atkins has joined The College of Wooster softball staff as the program's full-time assistant coach.
Atkins brings with her a strong, local knowledge of softball talent as the owner and head trainer at The Pitch in Loudonville - a private softball training business that specializes in personalized instruction for athletes of all skill levels.
Of note, softball players she has trained include Hailey Lang, an Ashland High School alum and current sophomore at Ohio State University, and Carter Wachtel, a Triway High School alum and first-year at the Georgia Institute of Technology, whom put together the seventh-ranked recruiting class in the nation according to Extra Innings Softball.
Before her time at The Pitch, Atkins was the recreation coordinator at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Ashland. Atkins also had a stint as the Shelby High School head softball coach from 2002-05.
Atkins will mainly work with the Fighting Scot pitchers.
