Three School Records Set as Scots Compete in Kenyon Invitational

Three school records were lowered in the women’s College of Wooster record book Saturday afternoon, as the Scots’ swimming teams competed in the Kenyon Invitational held inside the Kenyon Athletic Center Natatorium in Gambier, Ohio.

The women wound up in fourth place racking up 78 points, and the men were sixth with 89 points despite just a handful of swimmers competing for Wooster on each side.

The first two school records and NCAA Div. III provisional ‘B’ cuts were set by freshman Melissa Haug, who touched the wall in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:07.45, more than a full second better than the school mark she lowered last week during the NCAC Championship meet of 2:08.61. Not done yet, she accomplished the same two feats in the 100 butterfly, stopping the clock in 57.58, bettering her mark of 57.73 she swam last Friday during the conference meet.

Her twin sister Priscilla Haug hit the wall in 2:08.14 in the 200 backstroke, rewriting the old record set back in 2000 by Jessica Ritchie by more than a second (2:09.58). That time also snuck under the provisional ‘B’ cut time for the event.

Also of note, the women’s 400 medley relay quartet concluded its swim in a time of 3:58.41, which slipped under the NCAA Div. III ‘B’ cut time.
