The College of Wooster men’s swimming and diving team
kicked off the dual season Friday and Saturday by easily sweeping
past host Mt. Union College 150.5-72.5 Friday night before narrowly
falling to visiting Wittenberg University 123-119, while the
Fighting Scot women triumphed over the Purple Raiders 144-87 but
dropped a 126-110 decision to the rival Tigers.
The Scots’ men’s squad won 11 of the 13 events against
the Purple Raiders and 8 of 13 events against the Tigers, led by
multiple individual winners Eric Babbitt, Logan LaBerge, and Andrew
Olsen Babbitt finished first in both the 50 freestyle (22.03) and
100 freestyle (50.44) against Mt. Union as well as the 200 fly
(1:59.81) against Wittenberg. LaBerge was equally impressive,
taking top honors in the 200 freestyle (1:50.99) Friday and then
bouncing back for victories in the 200 individual medley (2:04.90)
and the 200 back (2:01.81) versus the Tigers. Olsen’s picked
up an event victory in each dual, touching the wall first in the
100 breast (1:05.62) against Mt. Union and then in the 200 breast
(2:21.62) against Wittenberg.
Wooster diver Luke Knezevic picked up three individual victories on
the springboard, notching two wins against Mt. Union with scores of
180.40 and 239.40 on the one- and three-meter boards, following
that up with a victory on the one-meter against Wittenberg with a
tally of 249.65 points.
The Scot women were nearly as dominant as their male counterparts
at Mt. Union Friday, winning nine of the 13 events. Rebecca Haug
led the way, as she was a double-winner. She touched the wall first
in the 200 individual medley (2:19.55) and also in the 100 breast
(1:14.09). On Saturday, Melissa Haug was one of the bright spots
for Wooster with a win in the 200 breast (2:33.35), giving her two
wins on the weekend, as she was victorious in the 100 fly (1:01.58)
on Friday against the Purple Raiders.
Wooster continues dual-meet action next Saturday when it plays host
to Ohio Northern University (1-1 men, 1-1 women) inside Timken
Natatorium at 1 p.m.
