Scot Men and Women Take Third at Season-Opening NCAC Relays

Caroline Hanson Both College of Wooster swimming and diving teams kicked off the 2009-10 season in fine fashion Saturday, with the men and women finishing in third-place in their respective fields, only behind national powers Kenyon College and Denison University, at the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays. The swimming portion of the event was hosted by Kenyon and the diving at Denison.

The Fighting Scots' women's squad scored 128 points, highlighted by a fourth-place finish during the 200 breaststroke competition, as Caroline Hanson, Tamari Farquharson, Melissa Haug, and Allie Kibler-Campbell joined forces for a 2:12.68 time. Also in the pool, Wooster produced fifth-places from the 200 medley team of Samira El-Adawy, Kibler-Campbell, Kate Hunt, and Clare Walsh (1:52.03) and from the 1500 freestyle, consisting of Caroline Hanson, Melissa Haug, and Priscilla Haug (16:14.35), while in the diving well, Alyse Marquinez and Gabby Benkovits scored 294.90 for third-place on the one-meter.

The top finishing team for the Scots on the day was the men's 200 breaststroke, as Peter Parisi, Ryan Radtke, Zach Boylston, and Tyler Hartley-Shepherd combined for a runner-up effort in 1:51.71. Parisi and Radtke played a part on the third-place 400 medley team, along with Adel El-Adawy and Logan LaBerge, (3:42.37). Also of note for Wooster were fourth-place swims from the 200 backstroke, consisting of LaBerge, Michael Saltzman, Parisi, and El-Adawy (1:38.73), and from the 200 freestyle of Parisi, El-Adawy, Saltzman, and Radtke (1:27.61).

The Scots begin their season in earnest next weekend with dual meets at home against Mt. Union College on Friday and at Wittenberg University Saturday.
