Wooster Makes Big Splash in Dual Wins Over Wheeling Jesuit

Jon Quiery The College of Wooster men's and women's swimming and diving teams made their last regular season home meet count Saturday, as both squads upended Wheeling Jesuit University, with the men winning 127-86 and the women recording a 148-60 victory.

Both the men (6-3) and the women (10-0) each had eight individual first-place finishes and one medley relay win, with men's swimmer Jon Quiery being the only one to earn two individual victories. Quiery won both the 100- and 200 freestyle in times of 49.34 and 1:48.19, while Michael Saltzman and Alex LaJoie took the top spots in the 50 freestyle (21.74) and 500 freestyle (4:57.96), respectively.

Seniors Logan LaBerge and Eric Babbitt each nabbed an individual win, with LaBerge taking the 100 backstroke (54.51) and Babbitt securing the 100 butterfly (53.20). The pair also teamed up with Saltzman and Tyler Hartley-Shepherd to place first in the 200 medley relay in 1:38.03.

Rounding out the men's winners were Peter Parisi and Luke Knezevic, who earned individual honors in the 200 IM (2:07.94) and one-meter diving (282.50 points) events.

The women continued their undefeated regular season with another impressive overall performance, highlighted by four first-year swimmers who all tallied wins in today's meet. Mary Nappi got the ball rolling by taking the grueling 1650 freestyle (18:42.51), and Clare Walsh followed her win with another in the 200 freestyle (2:04.71).

Both Kate Hunt and Samira El-Adawy had solid outings as well, with Hunt winning the 50 freestyle (25.53) and El-Adawy touching first in the 100 freestyle (55.91). Then Hunt and El-Adawy teamed with Walsh and Caroline Hanson to earn a victory in the 200 medley relay in 1:53.82.

Also scoring first place finishes were triplets Rebecca, Melissa, and Priscilla Haug, who wrapped up the top spots in the 200 IM (2:19.14), 100 butterfly (1:01.72), and the 100 backstroke (1:02.07), respectively. Alyse Marquinez rounded out a dominant performance with a win of her own in the one meter diving (213.05 points) event.

The Fighting Scots have one last regular season meet before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, as they travel to Grove City College next Saturday, where they will hit the pool at 1 p.m.
