Final Team Scores
The College of Wooster women's swimmers and divers completed the fall semester with a dominating performance at their own Wooster Invitational, as the Fighting Scots took top honors at the 10-team meet, held at Wooster High School's Ellen Shapiro Natatorium, with 1,344 points. Wooster was comfortably ahead of a pair of NCAA Div. II schools from western Pennsylvania in second-place Gannon University (1,264.5) and third-place Edinboro University (1,011).
The Scots, who also went a perfect 7-0 during dual meets this fall, were paced by Kate Hunt, as the freshman standout recorded a pair of "B" cut-qualifying times for the NCAA Div. III Championships while winning the 100 butterfly (58.43) and finishing runner-up in the 100 freestyle (53.18). Her performance in the 100 fly was the third-best in school history, and she added a fifth-place swim in the 50 free (24.70).
Complementing Hunt in the 100 fly was Melissa Haug, hitting fifth overall (59.89), and she led Wooster in the 200 fly with a second-place effort (2:10.80). She contributed a fifth in the 200 IM (2:12.17) as well.
The Scots' best event of the weekend may have been the 400 IM with three individuals advancing to the championship final (top-eight). Samira El-Adawy touched second (4:43.05), followed not far behind by teammates Syd Kelly in fifth (4:53.29) and Sarah Rudawsky in eighth (4:57.30).
For El-Adawy, the 400 IM was one of two runner-up showings over the weekend as she also came in second in the 200 backstroke (2:11.09). She contributed a fourth-place in the 200 IM (2:12.10), too.
Additional multiple top-five finishers representing Wooster were Caroline Hanson and Priscilla Haug. Hanson turned in a fourth-place effort in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.27) and registered a fifth in the 1650 freestyle (18:16.57), while Priscilla Haug was fourth in both the 200 backstroke (2:12.08) and the 500 freestyle (5:17.45). Also of note, the latter added a ninth-place swim in the 400 IM, winning the consolation final (4:48.95).
The third member of the Haug triplets, Rebecca Haug, recorded an eighth-place in the 200 fly (2:21.31) as well as two consolation wins for ninth in the 100 fly (1:00.11) and 200 IM (2:14.95).
Other notable individual efforts were posted by Kelly, who took sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.00) and won the 100 breast consolation heat for ninth (1:09.60), and Allie Kibler-Campbell, who was seventh in both the 100 breast (1:09.31) and 200 breast (2:33.84).
In relay action, the Scots produced a pair of second-place teams, both of the medley variety. In the 200 medley, El-Adawy, Kibler-Campbell, Hunt, and Clare Walsh joined forces for a time of 1:50.20, and in the 400, it was El-Adawy, Hanson, Melissa Haug, and Hunt with a 4:01.26 mark.
Over in the diving well, Alyse Marquinez contributed some valuable points, earning fourth on the three-meter (286.65) and seventh on the one-meter (300.80).
Wooster's next official meet will be a dual at Hiarm College on Jan. 8.
