Two individual wins from Melissa Haug was not enough for The College of Wooster women's swimming and diving team to maintain its perfect dual-meet record this season, as the Fighting Scots fell to Westminster College by a 161-132 count Saturday at New Wilmington, Pa. Wooster's men's squad also suffered defeat, falling 173-109 to the Titans.
Haug swept the butterfly events, touching first in the 200 with a time of 2:14.33 and sprinting her way to a 1:00.86 in the 100. Her win in the 200 was nearly five full seconds in front of her nearest competitor, while the 100 saw her finish 1.19 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Also picking up individual victories for the Scots were Kara Markham in the 1000 freestyle (11:08.23), Mariah McGovern in the 100 backstroke (1:03.33), and diver Alyse Marquinez on the 3-meter board (183.60). Despite those efforts, Wooster's record slipped to 5-1.
During the men's meet, one of the Scots' bright spots was Ryan O'Dell, who took first-place honors in three-meter diving (145.30).
The teams will be off until the three-day Wooster Invitational (Dec. 2-4), which closes out the fall semester of competition.
