The College of Wooster swim teams returned to action Saturday for the first time in about a month and both put forth dominant performances, as the Fighting Scots swept Ohio WesleyanOhio Wesleyan University with the men prevailing 164-117 and the women 185.5-93.5.

Wooster combined to have the top time or score in 28 of the 32 events, including the women's squad sweeping all 16. The men's result, though, may have been more impressive for the Scots, as they picked up their initial win of the season (1-6).

Leading the way were Brendan Horgan, diver Luke Knezevich, and Peter Parisi. Horgan swept the butterfly races via a time of 55.20 in the 100 and 2:05.69 in the 200. Knezevich made his 2010-11 debut after missing the fall semester due to an off-campus study program and scored 273.05 on the one-meter and 252.65 on the three-meter board in winning both diving competitions, while Parisi touched first in both breaststrokes, 1:00.16 in the 100 and 2:16.90 in the 200, and also notched the top time in the 200 IM (2:04.53).

The other individual winners for the Wooster men consisted of Alex LaJoie in the 1000 freestyle (10:57.84), Brett Dawson in the 100 backstroke (56.64), and Imre Namath in the 50 free (22.40).

The Scot women, who improved to 6-1, displayed their depth with 10 different first-place performers, led by double winners Caroline Hanson, Melissa Haug, diver Alyse Marquinez, and Mariah McGovern. Hanson paced the breaststroke fields via marks of 1:11.10 in the 100 and 2:34.09 in the 200, and Haug won the 200 fly (2:14.28) to go with a top time in the 200 IM (2:15.93). Marquinez scored 180.70 on the one-meter board and 183.45 on the three-meter, while McGovern showed her versatility with victories in the long-distance 1000 free (11:12.80) and the 100 free sprint (56.53).

Other winning efforts consisted of Samira El-Adawy in the 100 back (1:03.20), Adriana Hoak in the 200 free (2:03.65), Priscilla Haug in the 200 back (2:15.06), Kate Hunt in the 100 fly (1:00.13), Kara Markham in the 500 free (5:28.44), and Clare Walsh in the 50 free (26.18)

Wooster will next compete at Hiram College on Tuesday. The meet had originally been scheduled to take place this past Friday at Wooster, but was postponed.
