Behind double-winners Mariah McGovern, Adriana Hoak, and Melissa Haug, The College of Wooster women's swimming and diving team outlasted Wheeling Jesuit University 137-120, while the men dropped a 142-112 decision Saturday at Wheeling, W. Va.

Coming into today's meet, both Wheeling Jesuit's men (10-1) and women (10-2) were off to the best starts in their program's history.

The men (2-7) struggled early on, as Wheeling Jesuit was victorious in eight of the initial nine events, but then the Scots began to make a run. Peter Parisi, who had won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.46) earlier in the day, later touched first in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.09), which sparked a Wooster comeback bid.

Down the stretch, Brendan Horgan triumphed in the 100 butterfly (56.32), and Alex Lajoie easily swam to top honors in the 400 IM (437.30). Also, Adel El-Adawy made his season debut and helped Parisi, Horgan, and Imre Namath win the 400 free relay (3:21.22), but Wooster's late push wasn't enough to close the scoring gap.

On the women's (8-1) side, it was McGovern who notched the first win of the day in the 1650 free (18:24.24), and she later scored a victory in the 500 free (5:23.33) as well. Also winning twice was Hoak and Haug, in the 200 free (2:03.64) and 100 free (56.50), and the 200 butterfly (2:14.25) and 100 butterfly (56.32), respectively.

Other winners for Wooster's women were Priscilla Haug in the 200 back (2:14.32) and Caroline Hanson in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.16).

The Scots will host Grove City College on Jan. 29 at 1 p.m in the team's final tune-up before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
