The College of Wooster men's and women's swimming and diving teams got their respective seasons off to a good start Saturday, placing third and fourth at the season-opening Kenyon Relays, formerly known as the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays. This year, there were seven squads part of the men's field and six on the women's side.

Wooster's men's 49-point performance was fueled by the combination of Alex Lajoie, Brian Maddock, Imre Namath, and Peter Parisi. The group joined forces for a fifth-place swim in the 200 medley relay (1:38.61), with Namath handling the anchor leg, and they tied for sixth in the 200 backstroke relay (1:40.71), anchored by Parisi.

The Fighting Scots turned in one other top-six finish, that coming in the 200 butterfly relay, in which Maddock, Parisi, and Namath teamed with James Love for sixth-place (1:37.90). Also of note, Luke Knezevic came in fifth-place individually in one-meter diving (252.60) to help Wooster edge out Allegheny College (48) for third-place. Defending NCAA Div. III national champ Denison University (124) won the competition.

Kenyon College captured the women's championship with 120 points, while Wooster totaled 52 to hold off Allegheny (46) for fourth-place.

Kate Hunt, Morgan Hughes, Adriana Hoak, and Clare Walsh worked together for a team-best finish, touching fifth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.32). Hunt also led off the 200 butterfly relay, which came in sixth-place as Colleen Kill, Mariah McGovern, and Hughes turned in a 1:51.04 time.

Three other relays also earned sixth-place – McGovern, Samira El-Adawy, Hunt, and Hughes in the 200 medley relay (1:54.98), Rachel Appleton, Kara Markham, Kaitlyn Fries, and El-Adawy in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.23), and El-Adawy, Hughes, McGovern, and Kill in the 400 IM relay (4:21.55).

The traditional dual-meet schedule begins next Saturday afternoon, as the Scots travel to archrival Wittenberg University.
