The College of Wooster women's swimming team won the annual Veale Classic, cruising past Oberlin College 148-56 Friday evening and then taking a closely-contested championship 122.5-108.5 over Case Western Reserve University Saturday. Wooster's men's squad took fourth-place among the northeast Ohio schools, falling to Oberlin 129-100 and John Carroll University 127-96.

Mariah McGovern paved the way for the Fighting Scots, as she won four individual freestyle events, all at different distances, over the two days. Against Oberlin, McGovern touched first in the 100 (56.19) and 200 (1:59.77), and during the championship, she showcased her skill in the distance with victories in the 500 (5:18.53) and 1000 (10:52.82).

Another winner each day was Kate Hunt in the 100 backstroke (1:01.77) during the semifinals and in the 100 free (53.82) against Case Western Reserve, while two of the Haug sisters combined for three wins. Priscilla Haug led Friday's field in both the 400 IM (4:54.76) and the 500 free (5:29.92), and Melissa Haug won in her specialty, the 200 butterfly (2:13.83), in the championship.

Also of note, Kara Markham swam her way to top honors in the 1650 free (18:39.50) against Oberlin and Rachel Appleton tied for first in the 200 breaststroke (2:37.17) Saturday.

In men's action, Peter Parisi combined for five event wins for Wooster. He swept the 50 frees with consistent times of 21.74 and 21.84, and also contributed first-places in the 100 butterfly (52.35) and 100 breaststroke (59.68) in the semifinals and in the 200 breast (2:19.05) in the consolation.
