Wins in three different individual events by Kate Hunt paced The College of Wooster women's swimming team past visiting Westminster (Pa.) College 161-126 in a dual Saturday at Timken Natatorium, while the Fighting Scots' men's team also had a triple winner in Peter Parisi but they fell to the Titans by a 177-103 count.
Hunt started the individual portion of her day with a thrilling victory in the 200 freestyle, as she edged a Westminster competitor by one-hundredth of a second at the wall with a time of 1:58.38 to 1:58.39. There was not as much drama in Hunt's other races, as she sprinted to first-place in the 50 free in 24.96, about a half second in front of the runner-up, and then she added a dominating triumph in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 58.95, exactly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Melissa Haug joined Hunt as a multiple winner, earning top honors in her specialty, the 200 fly (2:15.35), as well as the 200 IM (2:16.90). Her sister, Priscilla Haug, hit first in the 200 backstroke (2:14.84), while Mariah McGovern, Samira El-Adawy, and Morgan Hughes were victorious in the 1000 free (11:09.53), 100 back (1:02.21), and 100 free (54.71), respectively.
During the men's meet, Parisi had a near three-second victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.70), followed by a winning 22.10 sprint in the 50 freestyle and a two-second triumph in the 100 butterfly (51.50).
Wooster's other winner was Alex LaJoie, who cruised to first-place swims in the 100 backstroke (54.84) and the 200 IM (2:04.59).
The Scots will not compete over Thanksgiving, but will be back in action with their biggest meet of the season to date, the Wooster Invitational, from Dec. 1-3.
