Grove City Edges Wooster in Dual Meet

The College of Wooster men's and women's swimming and diving teams both saw their winning streaks come to an end Saturday afternoon, as Grove City College swept the Fighting Scots by scores of 162-107 and 166-114, respectively, in a non-conference dual meet at the James E. Longnecker Pool in Grove City, Pa.

The men (3-7) were led by Peter Parisi, who individually won the 100 breaststroke (59.56) and 100 butterfly (51.16), and also swam the first leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:28.32), which included James Love, Alex LaJoie, and Imre Namath.

Brian Maddock also won a pair of individual events, taking the 100 backstroke (55.19) and 200 IM (2:07.16), and LaJoie touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke in 2:00.94.

On the women's side (7-3), Kate Hunt was a double winner, as she narrowly edged out a Grove City swimmer in the 200 freestyle (157.52 to 1:57.57), and then comfortably won the 100 butterfly (58.35) later in the afternoon.

Others receiving maximum points in individual events included Kara Markham in the 1650 freestyle (18:40.12), Samira El-Adawy in the 200 backstroke (2:11.82), and Mariah McGovern in the 500 freestyle (5:23.21).

The Scots will have one more tune-up before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships when they compete in the Kenyon Invitational Feb. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
