The College of Wooster's swimming and diving teams got their respective seasons started with some solid results at the Kenyon Relays, which pits North Coast Athletic Conference schools against each other strictly in relay competition and individual diving events, as the men's team placed third out of six, and the women just missed third-place, but settled for fourth out of seven teams, on Saturday at Gambier, Ohio.

The best result for either team came courtesy of the men's 200-yard breaststroke relay, where the team of Peter Parisi, Brian Maddock, Frayne Poeting, and Evan Hagedorn finished third in a 17-team field with a time of 1:53.27.

The men, which scored 56 points to edge out Wittenberg University (52), also had five other relays result in fifth-place finishes – Alex LaJoie, Parisi, Maddock, and Imre Namath in the 200 medley (1:36.95), Maddock, LaJoie, Poeting, and Namath in the 200 backstroke (1:40.15), Parisi, Maddock, James Love, and Namath in the 200 butterfly (1:35.99), LaJoie, Maddock, Namath, and Parisi in the 400 medley (3:46.19), and Parisi, LaJoie, Poeting, and Namath in the 200 freestyle (1:29.77).

Denison University won the men's championship with 150 points, while host Kenyon College took second with 108 points.

On the women's side, Wooster scored 57 points, which was just four points shy of third-place Wittenberg. Kenyon took the women's championship (118), and Denison (112) was right behind them in second.

Just like the men, the women also recorded some fifth-place finishes, as Samira El-Adawy, Molly Laubernds, Holly Hickman, and Mariah McGovern teamed up for fifth in the 200 backstroke (1:54.33), while Kate Hunt, El-Adawy, McGovern, and Morgan Hughes garnered the same result in the 200 butterfly (1:50.56).

Wooster will compete in a more traditional dual-meet next Saturday when it hosts Wittenberg University at 1 p.m.
