The College of Wooster's men's and women's swimming diving teams combined to win nearly every event (23-of-26) against Hiram College on Friday, on its way to dominant 171-52 and 172-68 victories, respectively, at the Cleveland City Tournament in Oberlin, Ohio.
The men had three double-winners in individual events, including Alex LaJoie who won the 200 IM in 2:08.35 and 500 free in 5:19.13. Imre Namath touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:53.92) and 100 backstroke (56.76), while Wooster's other two-time victor was Bryan Smith, who swept the diving events with 156.60 points in the one-meter and 153.15 in the three-meter.
In relay action, the men's teams' best result came in the 200 medley, where LaJoie, Peter Parisi, Brian Maddock, and Namath touched in 1:39.81, nearly 16 seconds quicker than Hiram's group.
Over on the women's side, Samira El-Adawy and Mariah McGovern each picked up a pair of first-place finishes, with El-Adawy's coming via the 200 free (2:02.34) and 500 free (5:30.72), and McGovern's in the 50 free (26.19) and 100 backstroke (1:04.33).
El-Adawy also joined classmates Rachel Appleton, Kate Hunt, and Morgan Hughes for a decisive triumph in the 200 medley relay (1:54.70).
The Scots will compete in Cleveland City Tournament championship meet tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
