Fresh off its annual winter break training trip in Florida, The College of Wooster swimming and diving teams swept North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University in a dual Saturday, with the men holding on for a 144-140 victory and the women earning a decisive 167-117 win.

The Fighting Scots' women's squad used 1-2-3 finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles as well as the 200 butterfly to construct a large lead. It was Morgan Hughes leading the way in the sprint freestyles, touching first in the 50 (25.50) and the 100 (54.86). She was followed by Clare Walsh in both (26.38, 57.20), and Alexandra Desotelle notched third in the 50 (26.66) and Molly Laubernds third in the 100 (57.94).

Kate Hunt headed the sweep in the 200 fly (2:14.07), while Colleen Kill and Anna Duke swam closely together in second (2:17.75) and third (2:17.97), respectively. Hunt also won the 100 fly (59.14).

Laubernds added an individual victory in the 200 free (2:03.61), and Wooster was atop the distance freestyle events as well with Mariah McGovern beating the field in the 500 (5:24.39) and Kara Markham in the 1650 (18:44.14).

The difference in the men's meet may have been the Scots' 1-2-3 finish in the 200 backstroke. That was one of three races that Brian Maddock won, as he hit the wall in 2:00.32, followed by teammates Alex LaJoie (2:02.40) and Zackary Pool (2:06.57).

Maddock's other victories came in the 200 fly (2:01.15) and 200 IM (2:00.57) and LaJoie picked one up in the 100 backstroke (54.78).

Two additional first-place swims came courtesy of Imre Namath in the 50 free when he outreached an Ohio Wesleyan opponent at the wall, 22.34 seconds to 22.36, and Peter Parisi in the 100 fly (52.44).

Next weekend, Wooster has a pair of meets, starting with a trip to the University of Mount Union on Friday evening.
