Wooster Swim Teams Both Winners at Mount Union

The College of Wooster men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept its second straight meet Friday evening, as the Fighting Scots won 155-139 (men) and 170-114 (women) against University of Mount Union at Alliance, Ohio.

The men's team had seven different student-athletes place first in an individual event, and Peter Parisi lead the way with victories in both the 50 freestyle (21.64) and 100 butterfly (52.27).

Other men to touch the wall first were Evan Hagedorn in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.43), Brian Maddock in the 200 backstroke (1:59.25), Imre Namath in the 100 freestyle (49.06), Frayne Poeting in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.35), and Zackary Pool in the 200 butterfly (2:02.70). Also, Hawken Lewis was a winner in the one-meter diving event with 125.85 points.

The Scots also teamed up to triumph in the 200 medley relay, as Alex LaJoie, Parisi, Maddock, and Namath finished in 1:36.86, which was nearly four seconds ahead of Mount Union's top relay group.

On the women's side, Rachel Appleton was the lone double-winner, as she swept the breaststroke events with a 1:12.08 time in the 100, and a 2:36.99 in the 200.

Also scoring maximum points in their respective events were Samira El-Adawy in the 400 IM (4:53.18), Morgan Hughes in the 100 butterfly (1:00.23), Kara Markham in the 500 freestyle (5:27.26), Mary Nappi in the 1000 freestyle (11:24.22), and Lena Smith in the 200 butterfly (2:19.48).

The women also won two closely-contested relays, as Mariah McGovern, Caroline Hanson, El-Adawy, and Hughes edged out their opponents in the 200 medley (1:53.31), and Hughes, McGovern, Molly Laubernds, and Clare Walsh were winners in the 200 freestyle (1:42.90).

Wooster will be back at home tomorrow afternoon when it hosts both Defiance College and Malone University in a tri-meet beginning at 1 p.m.
