The College of Wooster's men's and women's swimming and diving teams came up just short in competitive setbacks to Westminster College, as the men lost 161.5-124.5, and the women were edged out 146-134, on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference dual meet at Timken Natatorium.

The women's narrow defeat was offset by some strong individual performances, as Courtney McGovern won three individual events, and Molly Laubernds won two.

McGovern swept the backstroke events, by touching the wall first in the 100 (1:00.93) and 200 (2:12.48), and she also added a victory in the 200 IM in 2:17.40. Laubernds picked up her two triumphs in freestyle events, with winning efforts in the 100 (56.74) and 200 (2:02.27).

Those two also teamed up with Alexandra Desotelle and Anna Duke to take first-place in the 400 medley relay in a time of 4:09.91, which edged out Westminster's top team by less than a second.

The men's teams' results were highlighted by Conner Gelwicks and Brian Maddock, who won the 200 back (2:01.83) and 200 IM (2:08.51), respectively.

In relay action, the team of Aaron Brown, Gelwicks, Zack Pool, and Frayne Poeting were victorious in the 200 freestyle in 1:31.60.

Also noteworthy, Wooster earned maximum points in all four diving events, although not every diving event was contested, with Aaron Salzman's win over three others in the one-meter dive (227.70 points) providing the highlight.

Wooster will be off for a bit as it prepares for its own Wooster Invitational, which takes place Dec. 5-7.
