of her sixth-place showing in the women's 400 IM
during day two of the Wooster Invitational.

The College of Wooster's women's swimming and diving team made a one-spot improvement, climbing from fifth- to fourth-place, while the men's team stood pat in eighth-place, despite a near record-breaking performance from Brian Maddock, during the second day of the Wooster Invitational.

The Scot men remain sandwiched between northeast Ohio's University of Mount Union (530.5) and NCAA Div. II program, Alderson-Broaddus University (282), with 466 points.

Maddock stood out among all Wooster performers, both male and female, though, as he cruised to the second-fastest time in school history in the 100 backstroke. During the morning's preliminary heat, Maddock touched the wall in his signature event in 51.70, which just missed surpassing the current record held by Alex LaJoie in 2013 (51.56), and earned him a spot in the evening's championship heat.

It was there that Maddock placed third overall with a slightly slower time, 52.55, netting Wooster 27 points towards its team score. Maddock also collected 26 points in the 100 butterfly, with a fourth-place time of 51.34, and swam the opening leg of the fifth-place 200 medley relay (135.82), which consisted of Frayne Poeting, James Love, and Aaron Brown, to round out an impressive day for the junior standout.

Other men with noteworthy results were Conner Gelwicks with seventh-place in the 200 freestyle (1:44.37), Evan Hagedorn with 12th-place in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.12), and Love's 13th-place finish in the 100 fly (53.59).

The women's team leapfrogged Ohio Northern University (697) for fourth-place with 701 points, and are within striking distance of third-place Westminster College (773) heading into the final day.

Four Scot women made individual championship heats, including Alexandra Desotelle, who secured fourth-place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.84. Right there with her gaining key points for her team were Sarah Litt with a sixth-place finish in the 400 IM (4:44.33), Anna McGlade with seventh-place in the 200 free (1:58.11), and Courtney McGovern with seventh-place in the 100 fly (58.75).

Other top contributors on the women's side were diver Theresa Spadola, who scored the sixth-most points in the one-meter diving event (265.35), Colleen Kill, who took ninth in the 400 IM (4:49.87), and Mariah McGovern's 10th-place showing in the 100 back (1:00.85). The 200 medley relay team consisting of the McGovern sisters, Desotelle, and Morgan Hughes, also played a major factor towards the team scoring with a fifth-place time of 1:50.37 – good for 50 points.

The Scots will look to improve their standing on the third and final day of competition at their own Wooster Invitational, which takes place tomorrow at the Ellen Shapiro Natatorium at Wooster High School.
