Courtney McGovern's second day at the NCAA Div. III Championships was a notable one, as The College of Wooster's impressive newcomer reset her own school record on her way to 18th-place in the 100-yard backstroke competition at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.

McGovern made her debut at the NCAA's on Thursday with a solid 26th-place finish in the 100 butterfly, but having another day to settle in went a long way in helping her achieve a record-breaking performance Friday.

Competing against 36 others in the 100 back, McGovern touched the wall 18th, which just missed earning a spot in the consolation finals (top-16) later tonight. Her time of 57.02 was nearly a half second quicker than her previous best (57.50), which she swam at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.

McGovern will compete in a third event, the 200 back, when the national meet concludes Saturday.
