2015 Academic All-District Team

Morgan Hughes, who graduated summa cum laude from The College of Wooster earlier this week, was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for women's at-large sports, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. As a first-team honoree, Hughes now moves on to the ballot for Academic All-American® consideration.

Hughes earned three All-American honors during her career with the Wooster swim team and was one of the best sprint butterfliers and freestylers in the program's tradition-rich history, finishing as the fifth-best performer in the 100 fly (58.61), seventh in the 50 free (24.21), and seventh in the 100 free (52.89). She also holds three school records in relays – the 200 free, 400 free, and 400 medley.

An anthropology and studio art double major with a 3.94 cumulative grade-point average, Hughes was the recent recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Scholar, which she'll utilize to teach English in Malaysia next year. At Wooster, she won a number of awards, including the Phi Beta Kappa prize, given by the Wooster chapter to a student elected to membership on the basis of junior standing who has a broad range of coursework, a demonstrated concern for quality of life on campus, and leadership ability. Hughes, who may attend graduate school after her year abroad, was the president of Wooster's Young Life chapter.

Within NCAA Div. III District 7 (Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio), just 10 student-athletes were honored by CoSIDA from the at-large sports (crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo), and four of the honorees, including Hughes, were swimmers from North Coast Athletic Conference schools.
